Reel Repair ~ But not a classic |
Lead | |
|
I have a friend who inherited from his deceased fishing buddy a Cabela's Deshutes III reel. The reel foot is broken and he would like to repair it for
sentimental reasons. I checked with Cabela's and they refused to tell me since they want to protect their vendor. The reel is no longer sold by them. Okuma
makes a lot of their reels and it might be something they made for them, but so far I have not found out. I have given him some other options for repair but if
he could find out the maker it would probably be easy to get the part.

If all else fails, Bill Franke can probably fit up one of his One Pfoot blanks drilled to correct centers.

you can always try jb weld
next choice would be Zn-Al solder, which is a torch braze, but there are too many things that can go wrong on a painted part. |

Thanks Ron. Checking jb's website I see a number of products, which would you recommend for starters?

jb weld - is this thing on? - ha
clean the two surfaces with denatured alcohol and dry them well before you try to bond them. |

Bulldog. Thanks I had already turned him on to pfoot. I am also going to direct him to this thread.

That JB weld rocks! I had a woodworking mortise machine that arrived in two pieces. It was supposed to arrive in one. Had the cast iron parts welded back
together but the reassembly showed the device wasn't square with the bed. I had to make a shim out of JB weld to get it level and plumb, but it's been
working well that way for ten years now.

Kevin (Middlemac), what I do for customers in your situation is cut off the foot completely leaving a foot pad
as other reels with screwed on foot would have, then drill and tap the screw holes and screw on a new foot. Regards, Bob Fly Supplies aflyshop.com |

Bob has a good idea too...hmm, Kev try the JB, and if that does not work, check into replacing it if it is just to fish!
