The rod I have to consciously choose Not to fish is my Cummings Water Witch, 7-1/2' 6/7-wt. (graphite fishers would guess it's a 3).
Fishing this rod makes me giggle.

Great topic came up on Clark's board - I thought we should duplicate it here.

Which rod I fish most changes all the time. Surprisingly, I've been fishing the same rod most all of the time since late June.... Steffen S-glass
7'6", 3pc. 2/3 with a DT2 line. Lots of fun. I'll likely fish it tomorrow for tricos as well.

McFarland Spruce 703-3
when I need to go a bit heavier I take the D. Lyons 8' 5wt. 3 piece The Quiet Loop I recently bought is quickly working its way up the list |

For over a year I've had to consciously pull my arm back reaching for my McFarland 8'3" 3 pc. 5 wt.every time I go fishing so that some of the
other rods I enjoy aren't totally neglected - I've probably used it twice as much as any other rod this year, including both a lot of bamboo and other
glass. I have one of Mike's 7'9" 4 wt. blanks being built up right now, so the choices could get even harder. I love fishing my bamboo a lot,
but that 5 wt. is an incredible all around rod.

I fish a McFarland 8 1/2'/3pc 5wt the most! Someday, if he makes rods again [hint], I'd like to get another just for a back-up [just in case]. I like
it that much.

I fish two rods about 80% of the time in my year round fishery here. Lets call it 150 days each. A Phillipson X76 Royal Eponite at 6wt and 7 1/2ft, its my
favorite just because I like its wraps and style a bit more than the later introduced Master series with their yellow wraps and black trim. Then my Phillipson
made Johnson Profile series 800, the 8F76, it to is a 6wt at 7 1/2ft. Its a little softer and slower than the Eponite based rods, being made of 3M uniglass
Epoxy. Its a little stiffer and such with the NS ferrule than the same rod blanks based on the Phillipson Tip over Butt models but again I like its looks and
style better than the later rods.

My favorite all-around rod is Mike',s Presentation Spruce Creek 8' 3 piece 5 wght ,however for trico's here in Central,Pa, the Vintage
7'9" 3/4 is very sweet.

This summer I fished the Winston Retro 7 1/2' 4WT almost exclusively, but normally I would have to choose my late 70's Scott F79, a very smooth 8
footer for a four line.

Interesting that there are few vintage rods in this list. Lately I have been fishing a Browning 7 1/2 ft, 2 pc, 6 wt, 022975 most of the time. I find that I
have really gotten to like the heft of a 6 wt fly line and have migrated toward it as it will throw almost any size fly and maintain the ability to roll cast
well. I can't get performance like that out of any 4 wt I've ever had.

Which rod(s)? | ||
|
A S.F. Winston 8' 5 wt ...an excellent all around trout rod. I wish I had a 5 and 6 wt. in a 3 pc. configuration.
My Fenwick FF79 still finds time on the water and the 8' 6" Sceptre (these I think were a steal). |

Usually the most in any one year, but definitely the most on average over the last 20, a rod I built from a blank: J Kennedy Fisher, 8 1/2' (the 'glass
blank was listed for 6 or 7 line; it's best at DT 6).

I fish three FG rods in this order: Steffen S-Glass 7.5 ft 3/4 wt, Lamiglas Spring Creek 7.5 ft 4 wt (both built by me), and a 7 ft 3 wt prototype (built in
Japan by Ishizaka). The rod that I use most often is a 9 ft 4/5 wt Lamiglass Perigee (graphite), built by me. Here two photos: the S-Glass Mildrum stripper
and spigot ferrule, and the Spring Creek grip and tip.

Well, so far this summer, I grab my FF98 (9ft 10/11) mot of the time I go bass or pike fishing, and my 8' 3pc Parametric 6/7 for trout. I'm tellin ya,
that FF98 just flat launches a bass bug all by itself, and I would cry, literally, if something happened to it. Speaking of that, I could sure use a
spare......

I use my Lami 7' 3wt 3pc most of the time. I find that this rod suits most of my fishing although I still want to build a 7'6" Lami at some point.

i guess i really gotta try steffen and mcfarland rods. always hear such good things about them. well, since i don't have rods by either maker, i'd have
to go with my old fenwick ff756 or my system 5. and regarding my last choice...i am always amazed at how many guys don't favor the system rods. i try
repeatedly and just haven't been able to find anything wrong with it. i'll keep trying though.
