Just aquired an 8'. Seems to be pretty sweet with a 5-WF SciAng Ultra 4.
What's the general consensus on these rods? Best, RS |

RS,
In my opinion, the FR-2000 rods are slow actioned and pleasant casters. I prefer them a line weight below the rating on the rod. Fortunately, these are overlooked in favor of the more glamorous rods (Phillipsons, Fenwicks, etc.). As a result, they are often a good deal. Make sure your rod has wraps on both sides of the ferrule. Some of the early Cortlands with glass ferrules didn't have reinforcing wraps, and there were issues with cracked ferrules. They can be repaired. But if the rod is unwrapped and in good shape, a set of wraps would be good preventative medicine. Tom |

Tom,
The female is wrapped...should I put a wrap on the male side, too? If so, any idea what that brown would be close to in Gudebrod? Thanks for the tip, R |

You might want to give this thread a look. http://fiberglassflyrodders.yuku.com/topic/5912. The
FR-2000 and the Procrest are on my list to watch out for. Sweet trout rods the way I like them.

Thanks for the link. I'm in south Lousyana, so I'll be fishing panfish and bass with it. Other 'glass is a 7 1/2 Heddon Black Beauty.
Is the ferrule fracturing problem specific to the metal-ferruled? Mine has glass-over-glass. |

If the female is wrapped, you're good. The problem was some of the earliest glass ferruled Cortland rods. They figured it out pretty quickly, so the
problem rods don't show up that often. But it is worth checking to be safe.

I think the Cortland FR-2000's are underappreciated rods. Worth every penny they go for and are very fishable.
