I just received my beautiful little Axisco Airrite Stream from Marshall and it is remarkable in both performance and appearance. I know this subject has been
hashed over many times but this rod is really something special IMO. I swear it feels like a light bamboo 3 weight. What I don't understand is how they
make this rod for the price - especially a six-piece. Personally I think it looks about as nicely made as any modern Scott or Winston. Surely it has to be
made in China for that price. The Blue Dun site lists the Fenwick TA close to 30,000 yen and the Axisco is still only about 21,000 yen - $220. A Scott G2
Japan Special lists for 94,000 yen! I really don't want to hear that it's made in China but I'll bet I do. (1 yen = $.009 today)

for as well made as that rod and as well as the taper works, I don't care if it's made on the moon.

You are absolutely right, Ron. I was just curious. Really, I don't know how they could do it in China either! This rod is unbelievable.

I agree! Its hard to imagine that they got so much right about these rods in relation to my favorite bamboo. Ultra sweet casting and a bargain to boot. Try
a DT3 and maybe even a WF3 and it will remain spectacular.

I fish a DT3 and a BS-100 on mine, and it's a joy with either.

Yep, I'm in love. Shrink wrap off the grip and "electrocution" sticker removed - it's a keeper.

Oh man, Duff, you're killin' me. I was next in line to buy that from Marshall but you beat me to the punch. It's a really nice rod, congratulations
to you. I'm looking for one and I'd buy a new one but I can't seem to get that Blue Dun website to come up. Can anyone help me find where I can buy
one of these little beauties?

Duff,
I'm partial to that electrocution sticker. I think they look cool. I peeled off my first one and immediately felt "peeler's remorse". Well, I leave them in tact now. So far, I've heard great stuff about the multi-peice rods. How are the 2pc. models? Any one know? I think I read that somebody on the board got one and felt they were nothing special. But they're cheaper and lots of sizes too... mmmm.... Bulldog, Off topic, but how's your Izch/Isaac fishing? Was it worth all the shipping, etc.? |

it's the zap-fish karma.
I love my Izch. I have not yet used it for my purpose - I took out looking for stripers one morning and didn't catch any - did catch some rainbows on it
then I took it white bass fishing, caught a few and caught some nice river bass - it's still a lot of rod for these fish, though, it casts wonderfully and the less you work, the more you are rewarded with long casts (it loads best by haul)
This is a very respectable bass, and I really horsed it around with this rod
I also haven't taken it yet to the salt, but I plan to do both this fall, and may take it out this weekend to hunt for stripers.

That was probably me that posted about the two piece Axisco rods. I have a 7 foot, 3 weight, two piece. It's not a bad rod, but I think it is happier
with a 4 weight line. The finish is nice and it casts well. It's not quite as nice as the Quiet Loop 7 foot, 4 weight. I also have the 8 foot, 3 weight,
two piece. That was the rod I didn't like. I suspect there is a good reason why Blue Dun only carries the Axisco 6 piece rods and not the 2 piece. Those
extra ferrules probably help in this case.

In the 6-pc. rods, Axisco also makes
6'6" 2-wt 7' 3-wt. 7- 4-wt 7'6" 3-wt 7'6" 4-wt. In 2-pc. rods, they make 6'6" 2-wt. 7' 2-wt 7- 3-wt. 7'6" 2-wt 7'6" 3-wt 7'6" 4-wt 8' 3-wt 8' 4-wt 8'6" 3-wt 8'6" 4-wt 8'6" 5-wt http://www.angle-japan.com/ |

Well, that electrocution sticker: I took it off because every time I picked up the rod it was staring back at me. To me it's the same thing as the
"Read instruction manual before firing gun" engraved on the barrel of an otherwise nice gun. Everybody has an over active legal department in this
litigious society. I guess Japan is the same. (I was really afraid with my luck it would take the yellow finish with it but it didn't, mercifully.)
As to why the six piece seems nicer than the two or three piece Axisco rods of the same length and line weight, I think all those ferrules have a tendency to smooth things out somehow. I know that my glass five piece 7' 4wt Scott seems to me noticeably smoother than its twin in two piece. I think it must have something to do with weight, but who knows. What ever the reason, the six piece is a well designed and nicely finished little rod. Priced at a little over $200, it is an out right steal in this $700 rod world. I am left wondering, though, if those male ferrule pieces are ... uh, graphite? |

new mantra | ||
|
I always figured anything in multi-piece could always be made to feel better in one or two pieces. My new mantra is I like glass in 5 or 6 pieces at least in
the 8' or under length. You need a heavier reel to balance out the tip heaviness compared to a two piece but once you get there the extra weight out front
helps the rod cast itself (something I have always liked a little better about bamboo). This has been a long process through a bunch of rods and for this
month its the new deal.
Now an apology to Bulldog and the heavy collector reel crowd. On most any post about reels my pick has always been a light Hardy JLH in several sizes along with the Marquis etc etc. With my new need to balance rods so its at least near the front of the grip vs 3" in front I bought my first 3 1/4" Beaudex last week. At almost 7 oz loaded it is PERFECT for the 8' 6wt 5pc Scott rod along with some light reel seat bamboo. I'm seriously considering selling the JLH in 2/3/4 and size 6 to implement the new philosophy. Just hope I can hold it down on the JW Youngs to under a dozen. Marshall |
